Tips to go Skiing

Image
Coming back to blog-sphere after a long while, I realized that I missed to write this post after my previous one. The winter went off long ago and I couldn't go skiing last season due to some diversions. Now summer is almost skipping and I am here with a skiing post. Not new to me. I am someone who does many things late. Basically I am lazy. But now I decided to write it anyway as it could be useful to the other part of the world. So here I go.. Dress for the weather and purpose This is the best and easiest thing to do. Put on the right clothes. The weather may sometimes vary a lot once you start skiing. but feeling warmer is better than dying in cold. I always prefer putting on my ski wear - full thermals, ski trousers (NO to jeans), jacket, wollen socks, gloves, ski cap, mask (optional). I also carry an extra pair of jacket (thinner one), socks and gloves, incase I need them post skiing to avoid dampness. I add/remove my top layers based on the weather conditions. Choose ri...

Skiing in Sirdal: Stavanger, Norway

Image
Sports were never my piece of cake after school and college and until I moved to Norway. There is always something to do in Norwegian winters. As the weather is crazy  many   some  times, people tend to do something.. anything and everything. And I love it. They do what not - skiing, snow-boarding, ice skating {on frozen lakes}, ice hockey, curling etc. I think this post is more appropriate after knowing about Norway winters. Skiing is one of the best and fun winter sports I have come across. It totally sounded scary to me. Who would like to slide off a huge slippery snow mountain with boots heavier than your legs and long logs of iron tied up to your boots which will give you an easy fall and can fracture any part of your body. Because of this, people scared of heights go for cross country skiing. But if you ask me, down hill is more fun than cross country.  The first time I tried skiing was in  New Hampshire, USA  which ofcourse was just fa...

A run around Mosva(t)net lake: Stavanger, Norway

Image
Lately I have been on a "workout" spree. Read 'lately' as 2 months. Long time! I am walking, biking, dancing, hiking, running in the woods, volleyball and what not! Sometimes I also go weird about the stairs exercise at home and work. It's all fun except one thing. Running! I only considered running as a punishment that I always received back in school for some bullshit reasons. But doing it now.. I have to.  I have set some harsh goals for myself this year!  As this has been not-my-most-favorite activity, I need something to divert my mind while I run. Like the people or music or the place itself!  The place I live in Norway - Stavanger, is a place of fjords, water flows and lakes (not many as in Finland though). You can basically see water in most of the area I live in and fortunately, I have 4 lakes just few steps away from my house .  I have chosen one of these lakes called Mosva(t)net for a quick run last weekend.  It is pronounced as Mosvanet...

Nothing much to write except this little guy who made me smile and then I tried my hand at 3D-sketch :)

Sick days

Image
In between running my daily errands and confused professional life, falling sick with eyes for almost a week is the worst thing that could happen when I have loads of things to be done. But life was different and better in a way when my doctor advised me to stop using technology. I could get time for everything else. Flipping through those favourite books, trying those brain training games, talking to my fish (yes, I do!). And making those funny paintings. This is what I love to do at 12AM.

Captain Phillips

So, I missed to celebrate Diwali with family one more year. This is the  4th consecutive year and it's no more fun missing family on festivals. To compensate that, I made some busy plans for this weekend like cleaning, cooking, dressing up, meeting friends with whom I got a chance to lit a sparkle that made me happy of diwali, games, good food, lots of sweets, loads of pictures and then watch Captain Phillips. Of all, cleaning was the worst part. CP is one of the best action and thriller movies I have watched recently. Expecting it to be little boring from the poster, I still wanted to watch seeing the reviews. It being the true life story with many twists and turns made it more watchable. This is the story of a Captain of a huge American cargo ship that has to be reached to Africa from Oman. Tom Hanks played it the best by being the captain who tries to save the ship and his crew while they are being hijacked by pirates while passin...

Christmas, New Year and UAE!

Image
PS: I know, I know. Wondering that its been 3months we celebrated Christmas and of course we are done with Easter vacation as well, and I am still with my Christmas vacation post? This post has almost been dying in my drafts. So I decided to get rid of this today. I can't ignore posting few posts - How much ever late they are! My ideal/dream Christmas and New Year time is to celebrate with: Heavy snow, making snow man Decorating christmas tree Inviting friends for dinners, parties Shopping Become a santa, g ift children Eat a delicious cake.  No wonder I failed one more time in last 3consecutive years. Every time I had a chance, I had something else popping up suddenly. Well this time, it happened again but in a different way. Infact in the totally opposite way.  There wasnt snow, there wasnt cold. But there was Sun. Couldnt decorate a tree but could get fresh air from it. Friends, dinners, parties could never  be missed. Whereever I go, Shopping follows ...

Summer Vacation and Tips

Image
This time its Orlando!!! That was a quick plan we made for this long weekend and it worked so fine.  We went to Sea World, Disney Land and Island of Adventures. It was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. Everything has got its own significance. This is the first time I have seen such a place and all those crazy rides. I want to write a whole post about this trip and this time  I promise . I know I have been missing all these kind of posts every time after I tell you. But this vacation.. It was a hectic vacation of sorts. We had to walk a lot in the scorching sun (who said its never hot in the US?) at this time of the year, stand in those loonnnggg queues, get all tired and sleep for just 4-5hours. Not all vacations can be relaxing you know. My body was totally dehydrated. I would love to give these tips or suggestions for anyone making out summer vacations. Dress for the day. Check out the weather and make sure you carry the right outfits. I thought I wore a summer dress but I had ...

European Vacation

Image
Off late, I have been to Europe.. for the first time.. for my summer vacation. Never ever even dreamt that I would go to an international destination for vacations. 2012 turned to be good. I visited London, now Europe and I know I have many more countries waiting for me. *UK (London) and Europe are not same. They are totally different and need different visas too.* After having all the drama of applying for visa, only later we realised that I got it for short time. Never mind I wanted to take only a short break from work but had to spend time visiting consulate, submitting documents and get it done. The visas are made so strict now that they are issuing only for the duration of the trip which means if you want to re-visit, you will have to re-apply the visa. I know, it isn't fair! I wanted to take multiple breaks to Europe this year :( Now coming to the actual trip, I visited Norway and Latvia. These are small, nice and pleasant countries. Both the places that I visited in th...
