The last weekend trip that was cancelled was a plan to go to the quiet mountains for skiing. This time I missed most of the winter days due to travel and other priorities. It's almost spring in most parts of the world, but I am still looking forward to ski in the coming weeks - you know the desire when you live in Norway.  While the plan didn't materialize, reminiscing some snow pictures from the past.  There's a funny story behind these pictures.  One of the last summers, we actually been on a hike trip to Preikestolen and stayed at a cabin. In the next days, the plan was to make another hike, this time to Kjerag and one of my most favorite hikes. While we rested after our first hike at the cabin and tried enquiring officials about the weather on top of Kjerag so we could dress up accordingly, we were surprised with an answer that there is still snow everywhere but the hike was open. Which basically meant we needed winter hiking gear. Though we didn't dare to do a snow...

I love how Polka Dots are so versatile. You don't need to wait for a season to wear them or in fact wait for any occasion. I've got enough of my polka dots outfits and I love all of them. Especially this blazer.. I was bit skeptical when I bought this if it looks too formal and works well only as formals. But let me tell you. This will go with anything and everything.. for a work meeting with formal trousers and shirts, at the same time you can wear for a family dinner or carry it as a warmer for a cocktail party when you feel chills with your drinks. Or for a girls casual day-out wearing with a simple jeans and t-shirt like this one.  Here, I styled it with my favourite jeans over a tube top, accessorised with a simple choker and an aqua shade finger ring (not well captured but another favourite one). Starting with some "long time no see" ranting.. 😀 I can't believe that its been such a long time I opened the blog to write a post. The last time I was here, I wrote a long travel post with some nice pictures and I lost the whole thing for the second time when I was editing the format. I got fed up and procrastinated it forever.  Then this post was supposed to go in summer around August. But I realised that managing a blog with a full-time job (which you love the most), travelling, other hobbies and long to-do lists of personal errands is not an easy task after all. And falling sick in-between all this makes it even more worse. The blog totally had to take a back seat. Coming to the weather part, this year has been a disaster. Stavanger has some of the beautiful snow days. Unlike many other European cities, it has very less snowfall every year and it doesn't last for more than two days. You might wonder why I'm happy with less and short snowfalls when I really like having snow around? You would understand if you have ever lived in a cold place that snows for several days and lasts too long - time when you need to spend a lot of time cleaning drive ways and wind shields. Seriously! that task is annoying and makes me sick doing it every single day till winter ends.  So this place Stavanger makes it easy for you to still enjoy the light snowfall and skip the cleaning part. But of-course you definitely can visit a near-by ski resort or mountains to enjoy that x-centimeters/few feet powdered snow that you can taste. In between all the ruckus, I feel like I skipped some time between summer and winter. I didn't realise when it was fall and that we are almost in winter already. There are very few days of fall in Stavanger and you can't really see the change of colors in the city. You need to visit some near by beautiful mountains. Coming back to blog-sphere after a long while, I realized that I missed to write this post after my previous one. The winter went off long ago and I couldn't go skiing last season due to some diversions. Now summer is almost skipping and I am here with a skiing post. Not new to me. I am someone who does many things late. Basically I am lazy. But now I decided to write it anyway as it could be useful to the other part of the world. So here I go.. Dress for the weather and purpose This is the best and easiest thing to do. Put on the right clothes. The weather may sometimes vary a lot once you start skiing. but feeling warmer is better than dying in cold. I always prefer putting on my ski wear - full thermals, ski trousers (NO to jeans), jacket, wollen socks, gloves, ski cap, mask (optional). Sports were never my piece of cake after school and college and until I moved to Norway. There is always something to do in Norwegian winters. As the weather is crazy  many   some  times, people tend to do something.. anything and everything. And I love it. They do what not - skiing, snow-boarding, ice skating {on frozen lakes}, ice hockey, curling etc. I think this post is more appropriate after knowing about Norway winters. Skiing is one of the best and fun winter sports I have come across. It totally sounded scary to me. Who would like to slide off a huge slippery snow mountain with boots heavier than your legs and long logs of iron tied up to your boots which will give you an easy fall and can fracture any part of your body. Because of this, people scared of heights go for cross country skiing. The hardest truth you hear when in Norway is - there are very few summer days you can count on in this country the whole year. Read it as - there is no REAL summer. I almost forgot the fact that summer is supposed to be hot.. really hot like back in India or Texas - the places I lived previously. While the whole world is facing the global warming this year, we are having the cold, windy and rainy summer.  Weather is the only thing you talk about in your first year in Norway. The next year? Well.. you are already used to it and start loving the place! :) So, we, living in Norway, pretend the summer to be hot and buy summer clothes only to wear them for pictures and then wrap up ourselves in warm jackets.  The only time you realize the summer is seeing the greenery, and colorful clothes flowers around. I didn't have much clue about hiking back in India or in USA and until I moved to Norway, where hiking, running, skiing and other adventures are the basic steps Norwegians take when they are born. To survive in a place like that and to experience the real Norway, you have to make yourself do at least try these things. My first hiking in Norway was to Månafossen, which is the biggest waterfall of 90m and has the spectacular view in Rogaland county of Norway. It took us around 60-90minutes to drive from where we live in Stavanger. The best thing about driving in Norway is the wonderful view you get wherever you go. Its very scenic everywhere in Norway. Its full of fjords, forests and typical landscape views.  We have been to this place in September when the weather was not cold but you need to put on your jacket.
