What I Wore for an Indian House-warming in Summer - #CottonAnarkali

Image
Spending summer in India has become a big trouble if you are living in one of those hottest regions.. especially in the South or the far North. I made my latest trip to India during summer unlike every time and it was just around 40 degrees Celsius.. yea, just 40. There are also places that reached 45.. so you can imagine! Attending a traditional function in that sweltering heat is an absolute night mare! But it's been a while I attended these occasions (cons of living abroad) and I have been waiting to attend a traditional party. So when I received this house warming invitation from a cousin, I couldn't say no. But the next big question was WHAT TO WEAR. My initial plan was to put on a saree but I immediately dropped that idea 2 days after landing in the city. Next came Anarkalis. They have become go-to outfits for Indian parties for few years now and that came to my rescue. There are innumerable styles and styles still coming up. They are very traditional, trendy, fancy ...

Indian Dance

Image
"Dance can be a profession, it can lead to stardom. Of course it can. But it can also be a process of meditation. It can be therapeutic. It can be a way to grapple with our own inner fears and demons. It can be a purely physical endeavour. It can be a purely mental journey. It can be a self-realisation of one’s cultural roots. It can lead to spiritual fulfillment. Indian classical dance is all this and so much more! Little wonder that even the gods danced in India. They too probably realized that it added value to their bliss in heaven!"                                                                                                                               ...

Happy Mothers Day! :)

Home, Sweet Home!

Image
Blogging not even once every month is not unusual for me. And I think I am going to continue the era this year also. Oh well, you see it already. After excitedly waiting months to see the new little one in the family, I am home!  My sister recently had a baby boy.  Yay me, I am an aunt one more time.  He being the first boy in the family, everyone is super excited. He is getting special attention and privileges . Everyone wants to take care of him and respond to all his restlessness expressions. He is no less either. He needs attention. He becomes restless when he can't hear us talking or giving him all those lullabies. The cute tiny fellow is keeping us busy already. I am happy for my dad. He finally could get this little friend :) Being home is the best thing that happens every year (to me) when you are living abroad for a long time. And visiting home on special events like this makes it the best-est vacation. Coming to the outfit details, this i...

Bring It On, 2014!

Image
As if it just happened, I still remember how I welcomed last new year with family, food and drinks while holidaying in Emirates . It's the end of the year already!! And it's that time of the year when we look back at least once to see what and how we have done. We pat ourselves for the best things that went well and give a thought about those that could have been done better. But we have many more years to come to do the best of our abilities. So let's wave bye to this year and welcome the new years with a warm smile for both! Shall we?

Merry Christmas!

Birthday and Donations

Image
As I am moving far from my 25 and reaching 30, my birthdays are not much exciting anymore. It's not that I hate 30s but I am no more going to be in my 20s which is sad. Though 30s have their own pros and cons as 20s, I am not sure if they can give me as much fun as 20s. But I am quite sure, I am going to be more wiser wise. I still have a lot of time to reach 30 though.   Anyhoo.. It was my birthday some 10-15 days back and I wanted it to be peaceful this time. Totally. No mid-night celebrations, no wishes, no phone calls, no birthday dresses, no gifts, no parties, no dinners, no plans.. nothing.. nada. I have taken it off from my networking sites [this is a way to know your real friends ;-)].   I wished my birthday to be like any other day. Like any other working-day. Moreover I never celebrate at my work place. I have always taken off from work to celebrate with my family or friends. But this time I haven't. I planned my day busy. I filled it up with wor...

I am home!!

Image
Aahh!! What a feeling to be home!! The internal joy started almost a month back with loads of shopping, everyone asking my dates of travel and family saying come home soon :) I miss home alot, sometimes ! Its good and tough at the same time to be away from home. Good because you get to have your time , friends, trips etc. You don't need to take permissions for everything. You can sleep at 2 or 3AM, wake up in the afternoons, skip showers, eat junk, meal once a day, go out, drive crazy, watch 3movies one after the other, reach home in the midnight and you dont have anyone to question. Isn't it nice? But wait! Moving all these aside, imagine you have fallen sick/broke up with friends/hectic times at work/no time for yourself/no time to cook and eat/no where to go, there comes the feeling called homesickness ! A terrible feeling which makes us to feel like crying but we don't really dare to cry. I had such times! Bad feeling it was! Anyways, finally I am home and also...

No Resolutions, Only Goals!

Could you figure out I tried to sound like Rajnikanth on this title? Hehah.. Mind it! How you doing? Hope you all had a good holiday season unlike me! Mine was ok (not bad and terrible).    I spent my Christmas shopping and visiting Austin and San Antonio (places in Texas) and New year with shopping again, movies and REST. I had horrible headache after I shopped without food for the whole day.  BTW, Happy New Year! I wish all your dreams come true and have a happy, prosperous, beautiful, wonderful, peaceful, meaningful, grateful, magical, glowing and healthy wealthy life! Okay, back to me.. After going through other blogs, I realized I too have something to talk about New Year plans. Bear me.. Here I go! What happened? #2011 Travelled to India and spent time with family #shortandsweetmemories I have gone through my visa interview and carrying it for 3more years #achievement Fought with friends (literally!) Had bad time being alone #lonelinesssucks Had good, bad, s...

Baby Showers

Image
Recently, one of my colleagues invited me for her daughter's baby shower. I would for sure wear some fancy salwar or saree for Indians. But I don't have any clue about American baby showers. What they wear, what they do and what I need to gift. After scanning my closet for half an hour, this is what I came up with. I am comfortable in skirts and they are my all time favourites. Or may be I had to chose this to match with my new favourite shoes *shying* And I could come up with a nice gift too - Baby bath bed. The fun part of their baby shower is the games. One of them is something like this - they would give us some choclates, ask us to smell and write the name. Sounds nothing, eh? They keep the choclates paste in diapers. When we opened the diaper, the choclate looked like a paste and imagine they asking us to smell it. Everyone felt yuck before they started smelling it a number of times to figure out the name. But after all its a game. My colleague eve...

Diwali Disaster and Ra One!

Image
No, my Diwali wasn't a disaster coz of Ra One. Its just another random title! They say Diwali is a festival which makes you peaceful over evil by burning/bursting out evil and getting good. My mom would force me to light atleast a candle to throw out all the evil from me :) If this is true, don't we like to celebrate it daily? I don't believe in all this. If I want to have some peace, I make it right away at the moment. I don't wait for that RIGHT time. For me, the right time is right here! And yes! I love celebrating Diwali. This is the second year in a row we couldn't celebrate Diwali here. I still remember last year spending dussera and diwali completely at temples as I was new to this place and no other chance except visiting temples with families I know. And this year, not that my connection with God is decreased but wasn't so much attracted to temples. We just planned to go to office in Indian attire, visit temple, see the fire works and have some goo...

When it happened to be August 27th!

Image
Hola!! ** This is one of those posts from my drafts. I know its almost 2months and this shows how lazy I am! ** It was my first birthday in the US of A and I wasn't excited as I was away from my family and friends.  How much I love to spend my birthdays with my family! But well.. my roomies and their friends are not so bad. They celebrated my birthday as not expected and we had fun time for 2days as it was a weekend. I was weak the whole week (see I am not confused between weak and week :P ). But still I didn't stay back without shopping :) The day started with a nice cake cutting, phone calls, long talks with friends, movies and dinner. It was a memorable day over all. This is what I wore.. dress of the day . Trying to pose My eyes show how sick I was!  This is the cake from PF Chang's. Never bored of chinese bistros. Happy Mother's Day

Love you Mom for everything you have done for me. You are the only one to whom I can always come back shamelessly with all the things I have done. I can never owe you for the pain you felt for my life.  The only time she smiles when we cry is the first time we cry. and I miss you too mom..  P.S: I am loving my new puppies template. You? Why Women Cry Easily???

Image
I received this email from one of my friends on Women's Day and I realized whatever it is we are special in some way or the other.. :) One day, a young boy asked his mom  -  "Why are you crying?" "Because I'm a woman" she told him. "I don't understand," he said. His Mom just hugged him and said, "And you never will, but that's okay." Later the little boy asked his father, "Why does mom seem to cry for no reason?" "All women cry for no reason" was all his dad could say. The little boy grew up and became a man, still wondering why women cry finally, he put in a call to God. When God got back to him, he asked, "God, why do women cry so easily?'' God answered, "When I made women, I decided she had to be special. I made her shoulders strong enough to carry the weight of the world, yet her arms gentle enough to give comfort. I gave her the inner strength to endure childbirth and the reje...
